Assalamu Alaikum

Yea, I have a job interview tomorrow so wish me luck! No change since yesterday... I just want to record some memories of the weekend. Saturday, 4 of Sayang's friends came over all bearing food and new baby gifts. Alhumdulillah they were so generous, and brought delicious food that we are still eating. It was a fun afternoon for my wife, and our kids had fun playing with other muslims. (I sorta hid in my room, and peeked out occasionally to see if anyone needed more food or drink. It seemed safer than to be surrounded by five muslimahs wanting lady talk :D) They were all very friendly, and enlisted my help to carry items from their car. Then on Monday another family stopped by and visited us bringing more delicious food and more great company. (And I had someone to talk to this time :) ). I am so happy we have a supportive Muslim community.

Assalamu alaikum

Alhumdulillah, No baby yet :) It is still a few weeks early, so this is good news. My wife would like to have a (almost) full term pregnancy this time since both of my sons were 6 and 5 weeks early... The doctor said that should baby stay in, then she will induce during the 3rd week of June (date still not determined). We were told there is about 70% chance that baby will come early because the others are early, but we are now in the safe zone where it wouldn't be too early. So Alhumdulillah.

Eek, Last Monday (May 19) I went to "teach" middle school math at the Islamic school, but the principal wasn't there, so I just had to observe the classes. He called me in again on Friday to teach, and the math teacher called in sick, so he gave me sub pay on top of the interview :) and I was the 3rd in the prayer hall for Friday prayers :D. I did OK on Friday, but I am not really happy about my performance... He came into the classes periodically to observe me in action, and he wanted me to actually teach something. But the kids are having their final reviews before their finals, and there was nothing new to teach them. So I still let them ask questions, and I explained how to complete those types of problems... I felt like he wasn't very happy that I didn't present material the way he wanted me to, but I also wanted to offer the most benefit to the kids before their finals. I know I would have done better if it was earlier in the year, and I had to actually present something instead of review problem examples. I leave it to Allah, if I get the job, Alhumdulillah, if I don't get it; still Alhumdulillah because He is Most Merciful and Most Generous and He will provide... I will find out if I get the position sometime around mid June.

Humph, I tried to make my wife jealous but it didn't work :) I came home on Friday and told her about my day but left out the parts in parenthesis... I was in a closed room with four lovely teenage Muslimahs chatting with them (about math). They were all very nice, and asked me lots of questions. And then I had to eat with them (we had lunch at the same time but sat at different tables)... But Sayang knows me too well, and doesn't fall for this kind of stuff. It is fun to keep trying because she enjoys my imagination even if she is able to read between the lines so easily.

I got a call on Wednesday from a recruiter to interview for a potential job. It seems like the job is exactly like what I was doing before, but with at a different location. The two down sides: The job has about a 40 mile commute, and it will probably be shift work. (either evening or night). I am talking to my wife about doing both jobs if I get the offers, at least for a little while. Madressa doesn't pay enough for me to support a family, so I would have to get a 2nd job anyway if I teach, so InshaAllah I can do this until either I go back to school, or my wife joins me working at the Masjid... And I still want to return to school, and have found two potential universities where I could get a PhD with an emphasis on college education. So I still have a lot of decisions to make...

Yea! Tomorrow is Memorial Day, and a holiday for my kids. We have been having fun this weekend just goofing off. Four sisters came over to visit Sayang, and brought lots of food and baby presents. Alhumdulillah they were so generous! They had offered to help clean the house also, but I had most of it cleaned up... My kids had a good time playing withe their kids, and Sayang really enjoyed the company. I just sort of stayed in my room, checking every once in awhile to see if I could serve anything or help. Then today, I took the kids to see "Agent Cody Banks". It was a silly teen movie sort of like Spy Kids, and they enjoyed it.

Alas, no interesting news today... Alhumdulillah, three couples visited us this weekend, each bringing food! :) We have Satay w/ peanut sauce, Curry, kurma, Pad Thai, Nasi Lamak w/ anchovies. Mmmmm And one family brought pizza for the kids 'cause they were afraid malay food was too hot :D.

There was an open forum at the Masjid on Sunday while my kids were in school. It was interesting, but I am not excited about community politics, and the same points were brought up as for the past couple of meetings... It is so important for Muslims to raise their kids in Islam as a muslim. The division in my city :(; we are building and expanding our madressas and masjids, but they are becoming known as the Pakistan masjid, the bosnian muslim community center, the african american masjid... There were many complaints about the cliques and no friendly faces greeting new visitors.

The Principle at the day school stopped me, and told me he would start reviewing the resume's this week :) Insha-allah, I will find out soon if I am their new math teacher! (InshaAllah I am)

Job Search
Heh, I just came from the human resources department at the Community college. They are now interviewing for "my" job. Unfortunately, I didn't make the first cut, and while talking to the head of human resources, she said they received over 1500 applications :(. And here I thought Math instructors are in demand! The competition is tough in this market also. On the other hand, I checked, and am still the only application for the Madressa Math teacher :-) and the advantage to teaching at the Islamic School...No worries about classes being scheduled during Friday Prayer :D. Will anyone help me hold my breath for a week?

Sayang is doing well, and my boys are looking forward to the end of the school year next month. No plans for the summer though, (well, except cooking and cleaning, and laundry, and snuggling up to our new little one....) Hope everyone has a good weekend!
