Monday, April 28, 2003 ( 11:44 PM ) iggry Assalamu Alaikum Wr. Wb. Home Updates!!! :D Three weeks without blogging... I'm not Dead!!!!! Please don't bury me yet. I got wrapped up in my little shell, withdrawing from the world. I may be away for a couple of more weeks, but I will try to update weekly (insha Allah). I have been sitting on big news, and it is getting the worst of me right now, so let me start with updates. No Job. My most recent attempt is applying at the Madressa's day school as a Math teacher (5-8th grade) They are opening a high school this or next year, and I would try to migrate to 8-12th grade. Insha Allah I can get it! The more I think about it, the more I don't want to go back into I.T. They will start looking at resumes next week, so I should know in a couple of weeks. If that doesn't work, I am seriously considering selling the house, moving, and finishing my degree to teach University. Either way, the positions wouldn't start until August, so I need something to hold me over for the next couple of months. Read all about it! Hot off the press Alhumdulillahi rabbil alameen, My wife is pregnant, and "due" June 25. My extended silence is because of her (that's right, I'm blaming it on poor Sayang, how rude indeed!) Since our first two were early, she is at risk of having this one early also. So Dr has told her to imagine herself with two broken legs, and unable to move from bed without help. I get to be Mommy and Daddy to our kids, and learn how much work she does around the house :D. There is a new (and very uncomfortable) test out to determine if baby is going to come during a 2 week period, and her test came back negative, so we are safe. Baby needs to stay inside for at least 3 more weeks for baby's lungs to finish developing. Otherwise, baby will be in the hospital for about 3 months, and we definately don't want that! Oh, We decided not to find out baby's gender until the big day, and our constant dua is for a healthy baby. My time, I clean, take care of house, laundry, burn (I haven't really learned to cook yet) and wonderful friends bring food over so Sayang doesn't have to suffer from my burning (cooking). If you give me a recipe, I can make it, and my wife told me my Briyani turned out excellent :D. But the pancakes I made were blackened. Cooking is a big test of patience for me... Sunday, My kids and I went to a friends b'day party. (She turned seven) It was hard to turn down someone else cooking, and I got to bring some home for my wife. I amused everyone with how I successfully cooked biscuits Sunday morning for breakfast. I sat at the table sipping coffee and called "Adik, will you get the bisquits, and pan? Abang will you preheat the oven? OK take turns putting the biscuits on the pan..." They asked me which part of breakfast I fixed, and I told them I was the project manager! (Adik is Malay for younger (brother), Abang is older brother) Please forgive me for not updating very often... I plan to continue this blog, but I need to learn better time management skills. # Wednesday, April 02, 2003 ( 1:54 PM ) iggry Assalamu alaikum Home UPDATES!!! I was up, and trying to learn more ASP Sunday Morning, and my wife tells me that the car will not start for her to take the kids to Madressa. I come downstairs, and try myself without success (after checking battery connections) so I call my parents and ask for help. They show up about a half hour later, and I can only find half of my booster cables. So my dad and I run over to a store and get a new set, come back, and jump start my car. In the meantime, my mom and wife are together talking, and waiting for us to get it started. Somehow they start talking about politics and the war with Iraq. My dad and I come into a heated discussion, and try to just listen (and stay out). Unfortunately, somehow my dad gets involved, so I have to get involved making it 2 vs 2. Needless to day, we have differing opinions about the war. My personal view points are similar to my wife's, and I would always take her side. But I have to be respectful to my parents while disagreeing with them, and with emotional topics this is very difficult and stressful. Alhumdulillah, my parents are very accepting of my straying from my Southern Baptist "heritage" and embracing Islam, and I can call them for help and support for many things (baby sitting, auto help...) My dad and I have an agreement that certain subjects should be off limits, or if discussed, not taken seriously. We just need to get the wive's commentment to do the same. Anyway back to the car. On Monday, I took the battery in for testing, and it had a dead cell and was losing it's charge so I replaced it myself after calling around for estimates. It always gives me a sense of accomplishment when successfully fixing the car even if it is something simple like this. Sunday afternoon after my parents left, we went to a friends house for dinner with other Malay couples and had lots of delicious food. Three couples are talking about going home within the next 12 months and it is making it tempting to start looking for a job around Malaysia. Monday, after fixing the car, I wrote to my friend Ibrahim expressing interest in two positions posted internally. He is helping me out by sending me job listings from his company. He wrote back asking me to fill out an on-line application and with my slow modem, it took the rest of the afternoon. Tuesday I took Sayang to the Dr, and we found a Chinese sea food warehouse to buy groceries from. While looking for it, we found a new Indian resturant that serves Halal food so we enjoyed a nice long lunch. The food was delicious! We had some lentils over rice, beef curry, chick peas in some kind of sauce, and Kheer. I wish I knew the names of the dishes he served. While talking to the owner, he said he was trying to open a 2nd location about half a mile from where I live. That would be so cool! Right now, the nearest resturant servig Halal food is about 20 miles (35km) away, so we don't go out very much. We made it home before the kids got out of school, so I didn't do much else. Job Search Aside from Monday, today I have been actively looking for a job, and sent and introductory e-mail/resume to three recruiters, along with completing the last part of my on-line application. Now it's time to get my resume on-line also... # |
